There have been reports about battery issues with the iPhone 6s but only with a specific batch of units that were manufactured between a certain timeframe. Apple may be pushing ahead with its iPhone 6s UAE recall. Local media reports suggest that the company has written a letter to the UAE Ministry of Economy to inform them that it’s going to recall 88,700 iPhone 6s units manufactured in China between September and October 2015.
Director of the Consumer Protection Department at the UAE Ministry of Economy Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi confirmed that Apple has informed the ministry about the defective batteries in specific iPhone 6s models that were manufactured in China during the aforementioned time period. The statement added that these smartphones are now going to be recalled.
Apple has set up a support page on its website through which owners can check if their unit qualifies for the recall. Apple also mentions that this isn’t a safety issue and that the recall is only limited to a serial number range. The company is going to take back all of these units, replace the batteries, and then send them out to customers again. It does point out on the page that only the batteries will be replaced, not the entire handset.
It’s expected that this entire exercise in the United Arab Emirates is going to cost Apple Dh25.6 million which converts to around $7 million.
