Apple offers the iPhones in multiple storage options and if a new report is to be believed, the company is going to do away with the 32GB storage option for the iPhone 8. There has been a longstanding demand from iPhone customers that Apple should provide more storage with the base model. It’s not uncommon for most flagship Android smartphones to come with 64GB of storage in the base model. Today’s report suggests that Apple will finally dump the 32GB storage option for the iPhone 8.

The report claims that the iPhone 8 32GB option will not be offered later this year. Apple is now expected to offer at least 64GB of storage as standard with the entry-level iPhone 8 model. A more expensive model will tout 256GB of storage. There have already been rumors that the iPhone 8 is going to be a bit more expensive than its predecessors, some even suggest that it could be priced north of $1,000, so the report suggests that Apple is not going to give 32GB of storage as standard with such an expensive device.

It would make more sense to provide users with 64 gigs. However, the slightly revamped iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus which are also due this fall are expected to retain the 32GB storage option for base models. None of this has obviously been confirmed by Apple at this point in time so take it with a healthy dose of salt until we find out more.

It’s common for reports like these to surface well before new iPhones are due so bear in mind that nothing has been set in stone just yet.
