Remember how it was previously hinted that a TV series based on Castlevania was in the works? Turns out that the rumors were true because in a press release sent out by Netflix, the company has officially announced that a new upcoming original series based on Castlevania is in the works.

According to Netflix’s official description of the series, it will be following “the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself.” It is unclear as to when this series will be released, or who will be producing it, but apparently Warren Ellis has written the first season.

Prior to the official announcement, like we said it was rumored that a Castlevania series could be in the works and that Frederator Studios could be behind it. For those unfamiliar, Frederator Studios is owned by Fred Seibert and is also the same studio behind Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time.

Given that the studio owns the rights to the Castlevania series, it is more than likely that they’ll be involved, although oddly enough the press release did not mention or confirm these details yet. In any case more information is expected to be made available in the coming months, so check back with us then for the details.
