As we have said many times in the past, a platform is only as good as the apps that are available for it. So far Nintendo seems to have confirmed that Switch gamers will be able to expect quite a few games in the future, but what if gamers wanted more? The good news is that PC ports are something we can look forward to in the future.

According to a recent earnings call by Nintendo as reported by Polygon, Nintendo exec and Mario’s creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that the console had “mastered” Unreal Engine 4, and that it would be less than a year before they will be able to start porting PC games onto the Nintendo Switch.

Miyamoto was quoted as saying, “Regarding our software development environment, third-party developers who are making software for PC can now easily adapt that software to work on our platform. In the current development environment, Iʼd say that it would take less than a year for them to port a PC game to Nintendo Switch.”

It was not revealed what kind of PC ports that we might be able to expect, but it is good news for PC developers since it means that bringing games onto the Switch will be a relatively easy process. It is also good news for Switch owners as it means more potential games that they can look forward to in the future.
