If you’re hoping to see new Oppo-made phones at MWC 2017, you might be disappointed to learn that Oppo does not have anything new to share with regards to new products. However the company will be announcing something that they are calling “5x” and it is related to smartphone camera technology.

According to Oppo, they are calling 5x a “breakthrough” as it is a piece of technology that they have been working on for the past year. The tagline reads, “So close you can feel it,” although we’re not quite sure what that means. Could it have something to do with virtual or augmented reality technology? We wouldn’t be surprised if it does, but either way Oppo is expected to share the details which they will be announcing on the 27th of February.

Oppo’s VP and MD of International Mobile Business, Sky Li said, “We chose MWC to unveil the ‘5x’ technology in the belief that we can inspire the industry to aim higher, and continue to create pioneering products that give amazing experiences for consumers.” That being said, this isn’t the first time that Oppo has explored smartphone camera technology.

Just last year the company announced their own SmartSensor image stabilization technology, so it is clear that the company wants to improve upon its imaging quality, but either way do check back with us next week for the details.
