About a couple of weeks ago, Blizzard announced the “Year of the Rooster” event for Overwatch which was basically created to celebrate the Lunar New Year. As is the case with Overwatch events so far, Blizzard has created a special game mode for the event called “Capture the Rooster” which is basically capture the flag.

However the good news is that if you liked the mode, you’ll be pleased to learn that during the Developer Update video (see above), Overwatch’s director Jeff Kaplan has confirmed that the capture the flag mode is here to stay and will become one of Overwatch’s several game modes that players can take part in.

We guess this shouldn’t really be a surprise. Capture the flag modes are pretty common as far as these kind of FPS games are concerned, and to a certain extent some of them might even consider them as staples, so for Blizzard to have not included the game mode when they shipped the game is actually more surprising. However we guess it’s better than never!

According to Kaplan, Capture the Rooster will be available via the custom game’s interface and players will be given options in which they can further tweak the game’s rules. He also confirmed that custom games will now give players experience points which means that more loot boxes can be earned.
