While there are some gamers out there who are constantly upgrading their rigs with the latest hardware available, there are some who don’t see the need, or who can’t afford to make upgrades that often. Unfortunately what this means is that there are PC owners out there who do not have the necessary hardware to run today’s latest games.

The good news is that if you were hoping to play Resident Evil 7 and you don’t have the minimum hardware that’s required, not to worry as the folks at Capcom have recently pushed out a patch for the PC that will basically allow gamers with older CPUs to enjoy the game, although we guess the experience might not necessarily be ideal.

The patch will allow the game to recognize older-generation processors as it will no longer rely on the SSSE3 SIMD instruction set, which was previously required to run the game. Capcom did not mention which specific older CPUs are supported, so we guess you’ll have to take a chance and try it for yourself. Alternatively as VG247 points out, you can always check against Wikipedia to see if your CPU supports the tech.

Like we said there’s a good chance the experience won’t be ideal compared to if you were running a more modern rig, but if you’re not too fussed about graphics and frame rates and all that jazz, then we guess you could give it a shot.
