For those unfamiliar, Samsung SDI was one of Samsung’s suppliers for the batteries for the discontinued Galaxy Note 7. According to Samsung’s official investigation, there were manufacturing defects in the batteries of the Note 7 which caused the handset to explode and catch on fire.

Ironically enough it seems that Samsung SDI’s plant in China has recently caught on fire as well. According to a report from Reuters, it seems that the company’s facility which was used for waste caught on fire due to faulty batteries that were being discarded. Thankfully it does not appear that there were any casualties, and a Samsung spokesman said that there is no significant impact to the plant’s operations.

The Wuqing branch of the Tianjin Fire Department said that they had sent out 110 firefighters and 19 trucks to help fight the fire. According to Reuters, Samsung SDI is said to be supplying the batteries of the upcoming Galaxy S8 which is due for an announcement next month, or so the rumors are saying.

Interestingly enough we had actually heard a previous rumor that Samsung will be sourcing their batteries from Japan, so it is unclear as to which report is accurate, but either way we’ll have to wait and see.
