Samsung launches a refreshed Gear VR virtual reality headset every year with its flagship smartphones so it’s expected to do the same this time around as well. The company is due to unveil the Galaxy S8 next month and there are rumors about a new Gear VR. The latest suggests that it’s going to have a dedicated controller much like the one you get with Google’s Daydream View virtual reality headset.

This new headset will be compatible with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. It’s further claimed that the new Gear VR is going to look quite similar to the existing headset and that there will only be minor changes to the design and features.

It’s reportedly going to have a new front cover which will be able to house the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. A “single hand controller” will be included as well which would make it very easy to play games, control media and apps in VR.

Users currently have to purchase separate Bluetooth controllers to play proper games on Gear VR so this will certainly be a welcome addition. Since previous Gear VR headsets have started at $99, it’s quite possible that the new one is going to cost the same when it’s finally launched alongside the Galaxy S8 next month.

Samsung hasn’t said anything about a new Gear VR at this point in time and it’s unlikely to do so before the launch event that’s reportedly going to take place on March 29th.
