ZTE recently had the idea to crowdsource ideas for a new smartphone so it decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign for what it initially called Project CSX. The handset was later called Hawkeye and it had two unique features: a self-adhesive back and eye-tracking. However, the handset didn’t have high-end specs and that didn’t sit well with most people so ZTE decided to think about the project once again and it has now decided to cancel the Hawkeye Kickstarter.

In an update on the Kickstarter page for Hawkeye, ZTE confirms that based on the feedback it has received, it has decided to cancel the campaign. It does point out that this doesn’t mean that Project CSX is over. “We are reevaluating the device for the winning Project CSX idea – an eye-tracking feature with self-adhesive backing – and it will be implemented based on your feedback,” it added.

ZTE confirmed that all those who pledged money will receive a full refund. While the Kickstarter page will remain as a means to communicate about the Hawkeye, the company urges followers of this project to join its Z-Community form as it hosts the largest community that’s collaborating on this project.

The company also says that the Project CSX ideas will be implemented in a new device with higher specifications and that other device features will be evaluated once again as well. Based on feedback, ZTE has decided to push back the release date to deliver a device with better specs. A new date is still being finalized and will be confirmed at some point in the future.
