The three new smartphones that Nokia launched at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona last month don’t feature Carl Zeiss optics like previous Nokia handsets did but the situation is not what it once was. Does this mean that there’s no hope for Carl Zeiss optics to return to Nokia handsets? All hope may not be lost yet as the rumored 2017 Nokia flagship is expected to tout a Carl Zeiss lens like previous Nokia flagships.
Nokia sold its hardware division to Microsoft several years ago so it has been out of the hardware business for a long time. Its return to the market has been facilitated by HMD Global, another Finnish company’s that’s using Nokia’s iconic brand for its handsets.
A new Nokia-branded flagship smartphone is said to be in the pipeline. Rumor has it that it’s going to be powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor which will be used for almost all flagship smartphones this year. It’s also believed that the 2017 Nokia flagship will also have an AI virtual assistant of its own like Siri and Cortana.
Recent rumors suggest that perhaps we might see a return of Carl Zeiss optics to Nokia handsets with the upcoming flagship. Nokia flagships have always offered great imaging performance and that’s a standard that people hold it up to. It remains to be seen whether or not HMD Global makes it happen.
It merits mentioning here that HMD Global hasn’t really confirmed anything about a new flagship at this point in time so nothing is set in stone right now.
