AT&T announced a new feature called Stream Saver in November last year. As the name suggests, the feature caps streaming videos to 480p resolution and yet still counts the usage against users’ data allocation for the month. The carrier confirmed when it announced the feature that Stream Saver would be enabled for all users by default when it will start rolling out in early 2017. According to reports, AT&T has now started rolling out the Stream Saver feature for all subscribers.

It’s understandable why many AT&T subscribers would want to turn off this feature. In this day and age, there’s no fun in having to watch content in 480p, and it doesn’t subscribers any incentive to do so because the data usage still counts.

The only benefit they get is that their streaming video eats up less than what it would normally do on HD resolution but it’s not like streaming services don’t already allow users to adjust the quality of the stream as per their own preferences.

It’s not that difficult to turn off the AT&T Stream Saver feature. Subscribers have to head over the “Manage my data usage” on their AT&T account and they will find a switch there for Stream Saver on all devices that are linked to their account. AT&T says that toggling this setting usually takes five minutes and requires a reboot of the smartphone to take effect.
