2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV

With cars these days becoming smarter and increasingly connected, what this means is that it will require an internet connection if it were to get all the information it requires, or the information that users request from it. Data plans for cars sounds like it could a rather novel idea, but it has been done before.

However Chevrolet will be the first car maker to actually offer its drivers unlimited in-car data plans for as low as $20 a month. This data plan will connect users to OnStar 4G LTE WiFi, although we should point out that your car will have to support this technology meaning that if you own a really old Chevrolet model, don’t expect to be able to access this feature.

According to Chevrolet, the decision to offer its customers unlimited data plans is because of the increase in data usage in cars over the past year or so. The company claims that in 2016 they saw a 200% increase in data being consumed by its customers compared to 2015, so offering unlimited data made sense moving forward.

The service will be powered by AT&T and it should help provide both the carrier and Chevrolet with additional income streams. If connected cars are something you’d like to own one day, then perhaps Chevrolet with its unlimited data plans could be a company worth considering looking into.
