For some reason, Google has taken an awfully long time to release an official Google Calendar iPad app. While Calendar has been available on iOS for a very long time now it was only designed for iPhones and wasn’t natively compatible with the iPad. Now with the iPad being the tablet of choice for millions of people across the globe, Google’s Calendar product was missing out on many potential users, and the company seems to have finally got its head around that which is why the official Google Calendar iPad app is now available for download.

Two years after it launched Google Calendar for iOS, the company has finally updated the app with native support for the iPad. This enables Google Calendar to take full advantage of the iPad’s larger screen real estate.

The update doesn’t bring any additional new features for the app so support for the iPad is pretty much it but new features are said to be in the pipeline. The official Google Calendar iPad app should be able to provide more tablet-oriented features in the months to come.

Google is said to be developing a Today View widget for the app which will show users their upcoming schedule on both the device’s lock screen as well as in the notification center. It has been a big feature request since the app arrived and it should be launched for users in the not so distant future.
