HTC launched two new handsets earlier this year called the HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play. It stirred up excitement about a potentially third new device as it teased a mystery announcement for March 20th. If you’ve been waiting anxiously to find out what the company is going to unveil then you’ll be disappointed to find out that it’s not a new device. It’s merely a new color option for the U Ultra called “Blue Sapphire.”

When the company’s Taiwanese Facebook page said last week that “HTC will give you an unexpected surprise,” many got excited that perhaps it was going to unveil the HTC 11. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Today’s mystery announcement was about the Blue Sapphire color option for the HTC U Ultra. Customers in Taiwan can pre-order the 128GB HTC U Ultra in Blue Sapphire until March 28th for NT$28,900. It costs around $200 more than the 64GB variant of the same handset that’s available in Ice White, Cosmetic Pink, and Brilliant Black colors.

This particular color option has only been announced for customers in Taiwan at this point in time so it’s unclear if and when HTC is going to offer in markets other than its home country. The color does look good but I don’t think that would be enough to get people to pay an extra $200 for the same handset.
