There are quite a lot of premium handsets still remaining that have yet to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update. Take a look at Samsung, for example, which has not yet released Nougat for the Galaxy S6 series and the Galaxy Note 7. It has been a similar story for Huawei users who are still waiting for Nougat on the Huawei P9. A leaked beta of Nougat for the P9 was actually leaked last year but not much has come up since then. There’s some good news, though, as Huawei has said that the P9 Nougat global release is going to take place in the coming weeks.

Huawei P9 users in China won’t be too concerned because they actually received Nougat in December. Yes, Huawei released Nougat for P9 users in China a couple of months ago. Those who own this handset outside the People’s Republic continue to wait for Nougat to arrive.

Huawei India’s official Twitter account has now sent out a tweet which promises that the user experience of the P9 will be improved significantly when the Android 7.0-based EMUI 5.0 is released globally by the end of the first quarter.

The company hasn’t gone ahead and provided a precise release date but the timeframe suggests that the much-awaited update is going to be out before the end of this month. Hopefully, Huawei won’t push it beyond that.
