The Moto Z (2017) is a smartphone that we have been hearing about for a while now, and many had assumed that the handset would be officially announced at MWC 2017. However that did not happen which has us wondering when it might be announced, although it seems that recent speculation has it that we might have already seen the phone.

As you might recall, while Motorola did not announce new flagship phones at MWC 2017, they did show off the Moto G5 and G5 Plus and new Moto Mods. During the Moto Mods presentation, a mod called the Gamepad Moto Mod came up on the screen where it was sandwiching a Motorola handset.

This handset in question certainly looks very different from the handsets we’ve seen Motorola launch in recent times, and while it could be thought of as the new Moto G5 or G5 Plus, note that this particular phone has the Moto branding over the home button/fingerprint sensor, and the ambient light sensor at the top of the phone also appears to be of a different design compared to the Moto G5 or G5 Plus.

Of course this could merely be a rendering used to demonstrate the mod, but like we said the speculation at the moment seems to be that this is the Moto Z (2017) hiding in plain sight. Recently an unannounced Motorola handset with a Snapdragon 835 was spotted in the flesh, which many also believe could be the Moto Z (2017). No word on when the handset will be announced, but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
