The only way you can watch the latest movies is by going to a cinema, or at least that’s the current option. If you miss all the showings, then there is that weird limbo in which you can’t watch it anywhere until the DVD/Blu-ray version has been released, or you could always go the illegal route by downloading a cam-recorded version.

Since not everyone has the time to visit the cinema, or maybe some just prefer watching it in the comfort of their own home, a report from Variety has revealed that movie studios are starting to consider more seriously the notion of letting viewers at home watch the latest movies earlier than normal for a premium price. The report claims that studios such as Fox and Warner Bros. are considering a rental of $30 to watch a movie between 30-45 days after its opening.

We know that it is more expensive than a regular ticket, but considering that if you get a bunch of friends over, you guys can split the cost which could end up saving you more money. Some studios are also considering an even earlier preview of 17 days after a movie has been released, but this will see an increase in price to $50.

If this sounds familiar, it is because in 2016 Napster’s co-founder Sean Parker had a similar idea called “Screening Room”. Movie studios were reportedly interested in the idea, but to date nothing has materialized, but what say you? Is $30 to rent the latest movie a month after its release a decent price to pay?
