With all of Blizzard’s RTS games such as Warcraft and StarCraft, Blizzard has bundled a map editor in which gamers can create custom maps and custom games. To a certain extent Blizzard does that with Overwatch where custom games can be created with their own rules and what not.

However as far as custom maps are concerned, that feature is missing from the game but the good news is that Blizzard does plan to introduce it in the future. In a post on the Overwatch forums (via Kotaku), the game’s director Jeff Kaplan revealed that a map editor is something that Blizzard is considering for Overwatch in the long-term, but there are some technical hurdles which means that gamers shouldn’t expect it anytime soon.

According to Kaplan, “We are extremely open-minded about releasing a map editor for Overwatch someday. But because Overwatch was made with a brand new engine, this is not a small task or one which can happen any time soon. We have this on our long-term road map and believe heavily in user-made content. But there are many challenges ahead of us and it will be a very long road before our editor can be made available to the public.”

No word on when we might ever see this map editor, but it’s good to know that perhaps someday we might be able to look forward to custom made Overwatch maps.
