With the Apple Watch, it represented Apple’s first time using OLED for its products. This also led to rumors that this year’s iPhone could end up using OLED as well. However it seems that maybe the use of OLED might be a transitionary process because in a report from Business Korea (via AppleInsider), Apple could soon make the switch to micro LED.

The report claims that Apple has been working with LuxVue for the past two years. For those unfamiliar, Apple acquired the company several years ago. The report also claims that Apple could begin using micro LEDs for the Apple Watch Series 3 which is expected to be launched later this year. This is actually not the first time we have heard such a claim.

In fact Apple had also previously filed patents that suggested that such a change could be coming. In addition, the report suggests that Apple could potentially use micro LED technology in its iPhones, which is said to be causing some concerns for the likes of Samsung and LG who have been supplying displays to Apple.

When exactly this will be happening remains to be seen, so until then take it with a grain of salt for now.
