As you might have heard, last year the movie industry and Star Wars fans were dealt a pretty devastating blow when it was announced that actress Carrie Fisher had passed away. The actress was best known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, and also as something of a wizard at fixing Hollywood scripts.

Unsurprisingly this led to some questioning what this meant for the future of the Star Wars movies. There was a report from about a week ago that “confirmed” that Fisher would appear in Star Wars: Episode IX (which would be the movie after The Last Jedi), but now a report from The Hollywood Reporter is claiming otherwise.

According to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, she confirmed that Fisher would not be appearing in Episode 9, but fans can expect to see her in Episode 8. “Sadly, Carrie will not be in nine. But we will see a lot of Carrie in eight.” This is a bit confusing because the previous report came from Fisher’s brother, Todd Fisher, who said that the family had given Disney and Lucasfilm permission to use recent footage in Episode 9.

However Kennedy has since said that maybe Fisher was “confused”. In any case this is as official as it gets, so we guess for fans of Princess Leia, Episode 8 will probably be the last we’ll be seeing of her for now.
