Prior to the official announcement of Samsung’s new flagship smartphone, it was rumored that the Galaxy S8 would feature a dual camera system on the back. We now know that isn’t the case but it appears that Samsung did play around with this idea which is why there were so many rumors about it. Pictures of a purported Galaxy S8+ prototype have surfaced online which reveal that the company did think about opting for a dual camera system on the back.

The pictures of this Galaxy S8+ prototype have leaked online out of China. There’s nothing too different about this handset than the one Samsung has officially announced, save for the fact that it features a dual rear camera.

Samsung reportedly decided to not go with a dual rear camera because it didn’t see any real value in it. Dual camera systems are increasingly becoming popular and we’re bound to see more manufacturers opt for them in their flagship smartphones this year.

Not Samsung, though, at least not for the Galaxy S8. It’s too soon to be certain right now whether or not Samsung is thinking about making this change for the Galaxy Note 8 which is due later this year in the fall.

There will no doubt be rumors about a dual camera system for the Galaxy Note 8 in a few months but it can’t be said for sure right now if that will really happen.
