One of the many complaints that users have against Android is the fact that it takes OEMs too long to issue updates, especially when it comes to major Android builds where we would only see a release several months after Google has made it available. However it looks like Huawei could be getting an early start on things.

In a report on the XDA forums, it seems that Huawei has already begun testing out Android O for the Huawei Mate 9 that was launched last year. It should be noted that Android O as it currently stands is only available as a developer preview and it isn’t even finalized yet, but we guess Huawei wants to get an early start on things which we guess is a good idea.

Of course this doesn’t necessarily guarantee that Huawei will be timely with Android O’s release for when the update is released to the public, but assuming the report is true, Huawei really wouldn’t have any excuse to not have it ready in time. In any case the release times have improved over the years, although judging by the latest Android distribution figures, there is still a long way to go before Android sees Apple’s iOS adoption figures.
