It is without a doubt that Samsung will be carrying on with their tradition of launching a new flagship smartphone later this year. Many expect that it will be the Galaxy Note 8, but just in case you needed confirmation, how about hearing it straight from the source? During the company’s first quarter financial results, they also confirmed their smartphone plans.

According to Samsung’s press release, “For the mobile business, market competition is expected to intensify in the second half. Against this backdrop, the company will strive to maintain profitability through robust sales of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ and the launch of a new flagship smartphone in the second half.”

The company did not specifically mention the Note 8, but the company has stated in the past that they do plan to continue its Note handsets, so it makes sense that the Note 8 will be the next flagship on its list. In fact recently the IFA Executive Director was quoted as saying that he hoped that Samsung would use their event as the platform for the announcement.

Not much is known about the Note 8 for now, but we can expect that it should continue to offer up S Pen functionality as one of its selling points. We can also expect Samsung to utilize the same design language found on the Galaxy S8/S8+ and maybe even improve on it, but this is something we’ll just have to wait and see.
