For a long time, full-frame cameras were typically limited to those of the DSLR variety, but advancements in technology have resulted in companies such as Sony bringing full-frame tech into mirrorless cameras and even compact cameras, such as the RX1 and RX1R II, and now thanks to leaked specs, some details about the RX1R III might have been revealed.

According to the leaked specs, the Sony RX1R III is said to include “better operations”, whatever that means, although some are hoping that this will result in a better menu system. There is also talk about 4K video recording capabilities, something that was missing from the RX1R II which only supported Full HD. Last but not least, there is also mention of an improved EVF.

Given that the Sony RX1R II was announced back in 2015, it’s safe to say that either Sony does not plan to renew the lineup or that it is due for an upgrade. As Photo Rumors points out, the RX1R II has been running low on stock on various online retailers like Adorama, Amazon, and B&H. More units are said to be on their way but presumably this could also be paving the way for a newer model.

There is no word on when the RX1R III will be officially announced, but hopefully we’ll find out soon enough. Until then do take it with a grain of salt.
