Earlier this year at CES 2017, the folks at ASUS took the wraps off a smartphone in the form of the ASUS ZenFone AR. What made this particular handset interesting is the fact that it is a Project Tango device, which means that Lenovo is no longer the only company making such handsets.

However fast forward to today, the device has yet to be launched and we’re sure some are wondering about it. The good news is that it hasn’t been cancelled and that Google has recently confirmed that the phone will be coming this summer, which means that there is still a little bit of waiting left to do.

For those unfamiliar, Project Tango is Google’s attempt at augmented reality, but it goes beyond just layering virtual objects on top of real world objects, but rather the technology behind it can do all sorts of things such as sense depth and be able to map out a room. In fact Google is bringing AR and Project Tango to the classroom with the launch of Expeditions AR.

Unfortunately in terms of pricing it is not clear as to how much the ASUS ZenFone AR will cost, but we reckon based on its specs which seems like a relatively high-end device, it should be priced as such, but we’ll keep an eye out for the official details if there are any soon.
