Capcom’s plans to revisit Resident Evil’s horror roots with Resident Evil 7 was a good call as many have reacted positively to the latest installment of the game. Last we heard, they had managed to ship over 2.5 million copies of the game at launch, and now Capcom is aiming even higher.

During a recent Q&A the company had with its investors, it seems that Capcom is ultimately hoping that they will be able to sell as many as 10 million units of the game. The company states that they believe that they’d had a pretty solid start, and based on previous sales of older Resident Evil titles, they believe Resident Evil 7 could hit the 10 million mark.

Capcom writes, “The lifecycle for games is growing longer, driven by ongoing digital sales; as a result, Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6 have each sold more than 7.5 to 10 million units cumulatively (including catalog and re-release sales). As such, we will work to achieve 10 million cumulative lifetime unit sales for Resident Evil 7 as well.”

However it has been noted that none of the Resident Evil titles have yet to hit that mark, with the best-seller of the franchise being Resident Evil 5 which managed 7.2 million copies. That being said, Resident Evil 7 is still fairly new so perhaps there is a chance Capcom could hit those figures, so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more updates if there are any.
