It’s no secret that Facebook has been developing original TV shows as it wants to play a bigger role in the online content streaming market. It wants to leverage its position as the world’s largest social network to become a major destination for original videos. If a new report is to be believed, Facebook has had to delay the launch of its original shows yet again.

Recode reports that Facebook was aiming to launch the first batch of original shows in spring this year but it has had to delay the launch. The scribe reports that users may have to wait until the middle of summer now for these videos.

The report suggests that the problem is related to product development and not video production. It’s unclear right now whether the original shows will get their very own section on Facebook’s front page or if the content creators and publishers will merely be hosting the content on their individual pages.

Whatever the case may be, Facebook hasn’t said anything more about its video plans, and that silence only adds to the mystery surrounding the delay.

Regardless of the delay, Facebook continues to establish a footing in the online content streaming arena. It recently inked a deal with Major League Baseball which will enable it to live stream 20 games for free this season.
