If you’ve been on the internet at any point over the past few months, you might have seen a young man’s appeal online for free nuggets. Carter Wilkerson asked Wendy’s how many retweets will he require to get free nuggets for a year. Wendy’s said that the goal was 18 million. He’s still a long way from the goal even though the appeal has gone viral on Twitter, but Wilkerson has broken the record more most retweets ever on Twitter. That’s an achievement in its own right, right?

Wendy’s told him that if his tweet got 18 million retweets, he would get free nuggets for a year. The appeal got support from Microsoft as well which retweeted his tweet from its official Twitter handle. Even T-Mobile CEO John Legere chimed in with a word of support.

The record for the most retweeted tweet ever was previously held by Ellen’s famous Oscar selfie which packed so much star power in a selfie that it was unbelievable. Her tweet got more than 3 million retweets.

On the other hand, Wilkerson’s tweet has been retweeted more than 3.42 million times, while his following on Twitter has grown from 138 followers to more than 100,000.

All this effort hasn’t been in vain, though, as Wendy’s has said that it’s going to give him a year’s worth of free nuggets even though the 18 million retweets goal hasn’t been made. The fast food chain is also going to make a donation of $100,000 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption in Wilkerson’s name.

It’s a win-win for everybody.
