When it comes to racing games, there are many that gamers can choose from. You can go for more street style racing with the Need For Speed franchise, or alternatively you can choose to race super cars with the Forza franchise. However if you want something fun and silly, there’s Nintendo’s Mario Kart.So out of all the racing franchises out there, which is the most popular? While we can’t speak for other countries, a recent report from the NPD Group has revealed that Mario Kart is the best-selling racing franchise of all time in the US. According to analyst Mat Piscatella, “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the month’s top-selling title. As a property, Mario Kart is the all-time best-selling racing franchise in the U.S.”
That being said this shouldn’t really come as a surprise. Last week it was reported that the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console in the US for two months in a row, and that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe having only been released for less than a month has managed to moved 500,000 units including digital purchases.
We’ve also seen how the Mario Kart franchise has the power to spur console sales, like with the Wii U where it actually helped to boost console sales following the launch of Mario Kart 8.
