The HDR or High Dynamic Range technology is not just limited to big TVs anymore. LG and Samsung have both released smartphones with displays that have mobile HDR certification. They can provide a similar viewing experience on a mobile device, however, they don’t add any value for users in the absence of HDR content. Netflix is fixing this soon as it has confirmed that mobile HDR and Dolby Vision support is coming soon for the LG G6.

Both the LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8 have mobile HDR displays yet Netfix has only mentioned the LG G6 on its support page. The page confirms that the upcoming version 5.0 of the Netflix for Android app is going to bring support for mobile HDR and Dolby Vision for the LG G6.

The company hasn’t said as yet why the Galaxy S8 isn’t included in the list but it only be a matter of time before Netflix brings support for these technologies on Samsung’s new flagship smartphone as well.

Samsung did announce that Amazon will stream mobile HDR content to the Galaxy S8 via its Amazon Video service but that’s yet to happen. Amazon hasn’t confirmed as yet when it’s going to flip the switch on mobile HDR content streaming for the Galaxy S8.

We’ll be sure to update you when that happens.
