If you’re wondering if Apple could increase the amount of RAM in its next-gen iPhones, or if you’re hoping that will be the case, you could end up disappointed. This is because according to analyst firm Trendforce, they are predicting that Apple will instead be maintaining the same amount of RAM in their iPhones.

Why is this? Apparently this is due to the rising prices of DRAM and NAND. Apple themselves have acknowledged the rising prices during their recent earnings call, and they also stated that they expect this to continue in the near term. Exactly what this means for the iPhone remains to be seen, but Trendforce seems to believe that this means that there will be no changes made.

The company expects that the iPhones released this year will maintain the same RAM capacity as from before. This means that the 4.7-inch iPhone 7s will retain 2GB of RAM, while the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 7s Plus will maintain 3GB. They also believe that the rumored iPhone 8/iPhone Edition with a 5.8-inch display will also come with 3GB of RAM.

To be fair, Apple’s iPhones have performed admirably even when they don’t have as much RAM as the competition, but we suppose not everyone will necessarily see it that way. In any case we’ll have to wait and see if Trendforce’s predictions will come true, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
