With the Nintendo Wii U being such a huge flop and with Sony and Microsoft pulling miles ahead of the company with the PS4 and Xbox One, we’re sure many have wondered if Nintendo could ever recover, or if we could see the yet another gaming company fold onto itself. Turns out the Switch was the company’s saving grace.

In fact it doesn’t really seem like a fluke because according to Nintendo’s recent announcement, the Switch is the best-selling video game system for the month of April, which the company wanted to remind everyone makes it the second month in a row that the Switch has led the way in terms of video game hardware sales.

According to figures from the NPD Group, the console managed to sell 280,000 units in the US for the month of April which brings Nintendo one step closer (or 280,000 steps) to beating the Wii U’s lifetime sales within its first year. In addition to the Switch’s sales, it seems that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has proven to be a hit and managed 460,000 physical units alone, which when combined with digital sales brings the total of 550,000 units.

Like we saw in the past with the Wii U, first-party Nintendo titles have typically been able to help boost console sales and while we’re not sure what the attachment rate is for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, we wouldn’t be surprised if it did help.
