Towards the end of 2016, Nokia filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Apple in which they claimed that Apple had infringed upon 32 patents that belonged to them. However it looks like whatever beef either company had with each other is gone because the dispute has come to an end with a new licensing agreement.

It should be noted that Nokia’s patent licensing agreement with Apple was previously said to be good until the end of 2016, so we guess it makes sense that they are renewing it now. According to Maria Varsellona, Chief Legal Officer at Nokia, “This is a meaningful agreement between Nokia and Apple. It moves our relationship with Apple from being adversaries in court to business partners working for the benefit of our customers.”

With this new agreement, it is said that Nokia will be providing “certain network infrastructure products and services” to Apple, while Apple has agreed to return health products owned by Nokia to Apple’s retail and online store, which in case you didn’t know are Withings-branded products which Apple promptly removed following Nokia’s lawsuit.

Unsurprisingly the figures involved in the new licensing agreement were not disclosed, but Apple is expected to pay Nokia an upfront cash payment along with additional revenues from the future stemming from the new agreement.
