Smartphones these days need to be more than just faster and sleeker than the competition. There are also other areas that will make or break the phone’s success, and one of those areas is in the camera department where a phone with high-end specs but sporting a lousy camera will probably not do quite as well as it should.

Now the cameras on OnePlus handsets have been somewhat decent. They’re not the most amazing smartphone cameras, but the company is trying, but that could change with the OnePlus 5. According to the rumors, the upcoming handset is said to sport a 16MP Sony IMX398 sensor, which for those unfamiliar is the same sensor used by the OPPO R9s.

It should be noted that this seems to be in line with earlier leaked specs in which it was suggested that the handset will indeed come with a 16MP sensor, which is what this rumor is also saying. We’ve also seen some alleged camera samples pop up online, although it’s hard to tell how good the camera is since these photos were probably taken for testing.

Interestingly enough rumors about the OnePlus 5 also include how it will feature a dual camera setup, and exactly what kind of configuration we are looking at remains to be seen, but take it with a grain of salt for now and hopefully we’ll have the official details soon.
