Tesla is now in the business of selling solar roof tiles. It entered into this business after the acquisition of SolarCity last year. These tiles look like normal roof tiles but they’re so much more than that as they have almost the same efficiency as conventional solar cells. Thus they enable homeowners to harness energy from the sun all day without having to install any additional panels. Tesla has now confirmed that interested customers can place pre-orders for the solar roof tiles starting today.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk had initially said that the company will allow customers to place pre-orders for solar roof tiles by April this year. However, there has been a slight delay. Nevertheless, Tesla is now taking pre-orders for its solar roof tiles.

This has been confirmed via a tweet by CEO Elon Musk who said that pre-orders this afternoon. He later added that the solar roof tiles can be ordered for “almost any country,” and that the company will start deploying them to customers’ homes in the United States and overseas next year.

Tesla is going to offer these tiles in a variety of styles but Musk does point out that not all styles will be available initially. Customers can only order the tiles in black glass smooth and textured styles first. Tuscan and French Slate styles will be available in around six months, according to Musk.
