Earlier this year at CES 2017, Samsung took the wraps off two new Chromebooks in the form of the Chromebook Plus and the Chromebook Pro. The former was made available for purchase in February, but the latter was still MIA, although the good news is that we now know that it will be released on the 28th of May.This is according to a report from The Verge who confirmed the laptop’s availability with Kan Liu, senior director of product management for Chrome OS. What makes this particular Chromebook so exciting is the fact that it will come with support for Android apps that run on the Android Nougat platform, which according to Liu, “It will be the first time that we’re shipping this new version.”
However it has also been noted that the Android apps for Chrome OS will still technically be in beta when the laptop launches, so certain features will not be available right away. This includes full support for window resizing, docking to one side of the screen, and split-view, although these are features that are expected to be added later this year.
As a quick recap on the Chromebook Pro’s specs, we’re looking at a laptop with a 12.3-inch LED touchscreen display with a resolution of 2400×1600. It will come with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 39Wh battery that is said to be good for 8 hours of battery life. It will be powered by Intel Core M3 processor, and there will also be a built-in 720p HD webcam, and will be equipped with two USB-C ports and a stylus.
