A couple of months ago, Sony made a surprising announcement in which they revealed that they were developing a “Venom” movie that would be released next year. For those unfamiliar, Venom is a character from the Marvel universe and is also typically portrayed as one of the antagonists in the Spider-Man series of comics.

In fact Venom did appear in a Spider-Man movie several years ago which starred Tobey Maguire where Topher Grace was cast in the role of Venom, which was a bit curious considering that Venom is typically viewed as a muscular villain. However it seems that Sony could be trying to rectify that because in a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Sony has apparently found its star in the form of Tom Hardy.

The report claims that Sony is is currently in final negotiations with Hardy who is expected to star in the film, and given how much Hardy managed to bulk up for his role as Bane in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, we have no doubt that he would make for a pretty impressive Venom.

The movie is also expected to be directed by Ruben Fleischer who is known for Zombieland. Unfortunately the plot details about the movie are a bit scant at the moment, but with a release set for next year we guess we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
