If you wanted to catch a ride to anywhere last time and didn’t want to use the bus or train, taxis or private car companies were your only choices, but this is an industry that Uber has since disrupted as it basically turned anyone with a car into a potential driver. Now it seems that the company wants to disrupt the cargo industry next with Uber Freight.

To sum it up, Uber Freight wants to do what Uber did for drivers, which is to help  truck drivers find cargo to transport. According to Uber, “Uber Freight is an app that matches trucking companies with loads to haul. We take the guesswork out of finding and booking freight, which is often the most stressful part of a driver’s day. What used to take several hours and multiple phone calls can now be achieved with the touch of a button.”

The company is also boasting how Uber Freight will make the payments process easier, where instead of having to wait 30 days or more to get paid, which according to Uber can “sink a small business”, Uber Freight truck drivers will get paid within a few days for every single load that they carry, with Uber even taking on the responsibility of paying the drivers should there be a delay that is longer than expected.

That being said it is clear that Uber Freight isn’t for your average Joe, but it will be interesting to see if Uber Freight can do for truck drivers and the cargo industry what Uber did for the transportation industry.
