#IFA2017 – It is no secret that when it comes to smartphones, Sony’s presence in the market these days isn’t what it used to be, but that’s hardly surprising given that Sony has decided to reduce focus on quite a few markets, instead choosing to focus on its home market of Japan. However despite their reduced presence, the company could have something interesting up their sleeves.

In a recent rumor posted onto Weibo (via PhoneArena), word on the street has it that Sony might have a bezel-less flagship smartphone in the works that they could unveil at IFA 2017 which is scheduled to take place later this year. So far Sony’s handsets for the most part have kept to the same design over the years, making minor changes here and there, but otherwise it’s still very obviously Sony.

Assuming this rumor is true, it would mark the first time in a long time that Sony could be shaking up their design philosophy. It wouldn’t really be surprising either especially when you consider that many of the competition is similarly opting to cut down on the bezels of their displays, with Apple also rumored to follow suit.

At the moment Sony’s flagship is the Xperia XZ Premium which was recently made available in the US. Whether or not this rumored new flagship will find its way stateside remains to be seen, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
