Video chatting via Facebook Messenger is hardly a new feature, but it seems that Facebook is hoping that more users will start to use it as they have announced a bunch of new features and updates to the service that is aimed to make it more fun and enticing for users, and this will come in the form of animated reactions, new filters, and so on.

According to Facebook, “Video chats with your friends and family in Messenger just got a whole lot more fun. Check out the awesome new features—like animated reactions, filters, masks and effects, and the ability to take screenshots—available for one-on-one and group video chats. You can now share your emotions with a reaction, add a filter to feel like your best self, make someone laugh with a bear mask, and even take pictures of your time together.”

With reactions it’s pretty much the same with how you would react to regular Facebook posts, except that it’s done via video chat and will look like in the screenshot above. There will also be filters so if you’re feeling moody, perhaps apply a black and white filter, or sepia, or something else. There will also be new masks added to Messenger which allows users to overlay funny images on their faces during chats.

This isn’t a new feature but like we said, Facebook is basically adding more options to the mix. In addition to all of this, Facebook has also made it easier for users to snap screenshots of their video chats via a camera button, meaning that you don’t have to fumble around for key combinations anymore.
