If you’ve played any of those arcade game mashups like Marvel VS Capcom, or Marvel VS Street Fighter, if there is pretty much one staple is that they feature characters from the X-Men universe. Granted not every single one of them, but usually with the likes of Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Magneto, and so on.

However in the recently announced Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite, X-Men characters are missing from the roster and if you’re wondering why, the game’s producers have explained the reason why in a recent interview with GameSpot. One of the producers, Pete Rosas, states that from he believes that why some players want certain X-Men characters is for their in-game ability.

According to Rosas, “If you were to actually think about it, these characters are just functions. They’re just doing things. Magneto, case and point, is a favorite because he has eight-way dash and he’s really fast, right? So our more technical players, all they want to do is triangle jump and that kind of stuff. Well guess what, Nova can do the same thing, Captain Marvel can do the same thing. Ultron can do the same thing.”

The game’s other producer Michael Evans adds that it has to do with popularity, especially in more modern times when we’re starting to see more Marvel movies being made, such as Black Panther or Captain Marvel (who will be getting her own movie). According to Evans, “Captain Marvel may seem like a strange pick, but she’s fantastic. She fits the gameplay. She fits the story, and they’re gonna be really pushing her as a strong female lead all the way up into the movie. We’re trying to take everything into account and choose the best characters.”

We suppose it is a pity to see that some classic characters won’t be returning, but who knows, it could still prove to be a very fun game. Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite is currently set for a release on the 19th of September.
