For a while now, Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus has been dominating in the speed tests, beating out pretty much every phone released in 2016, and even topping the 2017’s Samsung Galaxy S8. However it seems that Apple could have finally found its match in the recently announced OnePlus 5.

In the video above uploaded by PhoneBuff, it pits both the OnePlus 5 against the iPhone 7 Plus in a speed test, and if you thought that the iPhone 7 Plus would win again, that does not appear to be the case. From what we can tell, it has largely to do with the animations used in iOS 10 which on its own is fine, but when compared to the OnePlus 5 seems to be rather sluggish.

It was actually a pretty tight race as the OnePlus 5 led the way for a while before the iPhone 7 Plus overtook it, but like we said iOS’ animations were the key to the iPhone 7 Plus’ downfall as the second round saw the OnePlus 5 lead the way and complete the speed test 7 seconds ahead of the iPhone.

It is clear that the OnePlus 5 is a powerful phone and while this speed test is hardly scientific, it does show that the 8GB of RAM and Snapdragon 835 chipset combination as well as the speedy animations did help the phone topple the king. It remains to be seen how long the OnePlus 5 will stay at the top, but for now it looks like a clear winner.
