One of the most important skills to have when playing FPS is aim. After all you could have the best and highest-damage dealing weapon in the game, but if you can’t hit your target, there’s really no point. This is where hacks/tools such as aimbots come in, where they help players find their targets more easily.

It is safe to say that no FPS is free of aimbots, but the good news is that Blizzard is actively doing something about it as far as Overwatch is concerned. In a post on Reddit, it has been noted that the latest patch to the game will pretty much render aimbots useless, or at least those that rely on image recognition.

According to the post, “Image recognition based aimbots, prevalent in Korea, work by targeting specific RGB value used for enemy outlines. Basically starting from this patch, the outlines on enemies slightly change in color (unnoticeable to human eyes) so that the image recognition engine on aimbots would be either completely useless or have high failure rate.”

Given Blizzard’s plans to make Overwatch a competitive eSports title, cracking down hard and fast on cheats and hacks will help ensure the legitimacy of the game. Ahead of the game’s launch, Blizzard had already warned gamers that cheaters will be permanently banned without warning or second chances, and they proved it by banning more than 1,000 players within a week of the game’s release.
