For many years, Apple has offered its customers its own option when it came to photo editing in the form of the Aperture app. However Apple later killed off the app back in 2015 in favor of Photos, which we guess was Apple’s way of streamlining photo storage, organization, and editing into a single application.

However it wasn’t exactly ideal as Photos was lacking certain advanced features that professionals would use in their workflow, at least until now with the announcement of macOS High Sierra. In the next-generation update to macOS, Apple has also made some upgrades to some of its apps, such as Photos where the app will now have more advanced editing features for professionals who might have the need for it.

As you can see in the screenshot above, it seems that Apple has made some pretty major changes to the way photos are edited in the app where it clearly looks like there are more features and options available to photographers. This includes Levels, Curves,  Definition, Sharpness, Noise, Selective Color adjustment, and more.

In addition, Photos will now play nicely with third-party apps and allow users to open photos in other apps, such as Lightroom or Photoshop. Now whether or not the new editing tools in Photos will be on par with Lightroom or other photo editing apps remains to be seen, but given that it is a free bundled software with macOS, we guess it wouldn’t hurt for customers to give it a try.
