One of the key features that was launched with the Samsung Galaxy S8 was Bixby, Samsung’s take on an AI-based assistant software for the smartphone, but it looks like Bixby could soon be moving on from smartphones and into other devices. According to a report from the Korea Herald, Samsung has a smart speaker in the works.

This shouldn’t really be that surprising considering the fact that many companies are hopping on the smart speaker bandwagon these days. Amazon kind of kicked it off with the Amazon Echo which proved to be a surprising success, then Google followed suit with the Google Home, and recently Apple got into the game with the HomePod, and Microsoft even launched something similar in the Invoke.

Evidence of Samsung’s interest comes in the form of a patent which seems to hint at a smart speaker-like device, but since patents don’t always become actual products, it’s hard to say if this was merely an idea Samsung was mulling or if it’s something they’re actively working on. No word on when Samsung will debut this alleged device, but the report claims it will arrive this fall.

That seems to be in line with when Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 8 so we guess that’s as good a time as any, but until then do take it with a grain of salt.
