While many see Xiaomi as a company that makes phones, over in China Xiaomi is a company that dabbles in more than just mobile devices. For example the company has launched devices like an electric screwdriver and an air purifier, which is why it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that the company’s latest product is an Android-powered short throw laser projector.

The projector announced by the company will allow users to place it in front of a surface at a distance between 5cm to 50cm from the wall. From there it will be capable of projecting an image that will go up to 150-inches, but given that the resolution of the projector is at Full HD 1080p, going so huge might not be such a good idea when it comes to image quality.

It will be powered by Texas Instruments DLP tech which promises movie theater-grade 5,000 lumens of brightness, and a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, and better than 85% NTSC color coverage. It has also been estimated to be good for 25,000 hours, so depending on how often you use it, how long it will vary.

Like we said, it is also powered by Android with the MIUI TV interface overlaid on it. It also comes with built-in speakers, and also has WiFi and Ethernet. Unfortunately for now it appears to be a China-only launch where it is priced at CNY 10,000 which is roughly $1,500.
