Acura, the luxury car brand owned by Honda, has announced that it’s going to live stream an augmented reality race on Facebook Live. The augmented reality race has been set up to promote the company’s new 2018 TLX A-Spec sedan. The race is going to feature four drivers going head to head on a real track while wearing augmented reality helmets which create new virtual environments for each lap.

Viewers who tune in to watch this augmented reality race will not only be able to view the entire race but also interact with the racers via Facebook Live.

Each driver will attempt to put the fastest time on the board for the three-tap time trial event. After that, the augmented reality environments will come online and start altering what the drivers see. Each lap will thus trigger a new mixed-reality environment that will be visible to both the drivers and viewers.

The computer-connected helmets worn by the driver feature one HD screen with a two-way mirror that lets them see the AR world that’s laid onto the real track. All of this is powered by a computer rig placed in the backseat of the car.

Those who are interested in tuning in can watch the augmented reality race at 8 pm ET today. Acura is going to live stream the race on its official YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter accounts.
