If you’ve been interested in purchasing a Nintendo SNES Classic unit, you might be aware that Walmart mistakenly published the product page last week ahead of the official release date. People were quick to place their pre-orders and many of them would have felt quite happy that they were able to get their hands on the SNES Classic. Their happiness is short lived, though, because Walmart has confirmed that it’s canceling every single one of those pre-orders.

Walmart accidentally accepted pre-orders for the SNES Classic last week when the product page went live ahead of schedule. The company is now informing all customers who placed a pre-order via email that their order stands canceled.

Deserie Dulaney, senior director for customer care at Walmart, writes in the email that “We know that this is incredibly disappointing to you, and we’re truly sorry for this mistake,” adding that “Unfortunately, due to a technical glitch, the Super Nintendo Classic Edition was mistakenly made available last Friday evening ahead of the official release date.”

All orders for the SNES Classic have now been canceled. Walmart has not charged customers who purchased the device with a credit card. Like many other retailers, it only charges payment cards once the order has been shipped.

Customers who paid using PayPal or a gift card will receive refunds.
