Solar farms are meant to be practical, where they help generate energy which can then be used to power homes, buildings, and so on. However who said that being practical does not mean that you can’t be cute as well? Because if so, it seems that China did not get the message.

In a report from Inhabitat, it seems that over in Datong, a city in the province of Shanxi in Northern China, there exists a solar farm that has been designed to look like a cute panda when viewed from a bird’s eye view, as you can see in the image above. The project is aptly dubbed the Panda Green Energy and has the ability to output 50MW, which is enough to power more than 8,000 homes in the US.

There are two types of solar panels used in this construction, with white thin film photovoltaic cells and black monocrystalline silicon PV cells, together which it forms the cute panda design. The goal is to build up the farm where it will be capable of outputting as much as 100MW, and 3.2 billion kWh of solar energy in 25 years.

It might seem rather frivolous, but if it can help generate attention and focus on solar energy, then we say why not?
